It has been a long path getting here, but in 6 days Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President of the United States of America. I am reminded of the snarky bumper stickers during the 2008 election cycle proclaiming 1/20/2009 as “The End of an Error” referencing the departute of George W. Bush from the White House. Well, as with so many other things in the coarsening of our national discourse, the leftists who giggled over that sentiment may now enjoy its return. On 1/20/2017, the massive error that was the Obama Administration will be over and I cannot convey how glad I am over that. With any luck whatsoever, this will finally and truly put a stake through the heart of the Clinton Machine, too.
We’ve got a lot of work to do and I’m very glad to see Donald Trump’s team diving into it, even before the Inauguration. There are plenty who aren’t and who are making loud calls for exactly the kind of violent uprising they have claimed to be afraid of every time a Republican wins an office. They have no principles save their own clutching scramble for power and no desire or ability to compromise or work with people who do not toe their line. The calls for violent demonstration explicity aimed at “disrupting” the Inauguration – hell, one of them has even called for the implementation of martial law – should not be ignored. We have seen repeatedly how these “demonstrations” end up – cars on fire, shops damaged and looted, people hurt and even killed.
And no, for the record, the Tea Party never even came close to any of that.
Those of us who live in the area don’t think it’s a joke and we’re not dismissing the concerns. Those who are planning these kinds of disruptions need to understand something. Reacting this way will only get you more Trump. Think about it.
Even with all of that, I do have hope again for the 1st time in 8 years. I look forward to the end of next week!
