Elections have consequences: Obama’s choice for AG wants to “regulate” what you say on the internet

Via HotAir’s Ed Morrissey we have a clip from an interview incoming AG Eric Holder gave to NPR back when he was the Deputy AG in the Clinton administration. His words, from the transcript over at Newsbusters:

The court has really struck down every government effort to try to regulate it. We tried with regard to pornography. It is gonna be a difficult thing, but it seems to me that if we can come up with reasonable restrictions, reasonable regulations in how people interact on the Internet, that is something that the Supreme Court and the courts ought to favorably look at. – May 28, 1999 NPR Morning Edition

Emphasis mine. Morrissey had the same reaction I did: the 1st Amendment explicitly states that Congress has no authority to “reasonably regulate” or “reasonably restrict” how consenting citizens interact in their communications. Holder clearly wants to wield a federal censorship power and – in case you missed this, folks – he’s aiming it at you. This is the kind of person Obama is surrounding himself with and to whom he’s entrusting the federal ability to force you to behave the way they want you to. Holder should be required to explain, in detail, what he means by these statements and to go on record with what he considers “reasonable.” I’m also curious about how someone who feels this way is to be entrusted with the top spot in our law enforcement agencies considering he’ll be the one deciding whether to investigate an abuse of federal power.

Vigilance, ladies & gentlemen, isn’t something you only need when you’re facing outward on the border.
