Accusations of racism: the shape of things to come

Looks like I’m hardly alone in noticing the racism dynamics at play in the campaign of Barak Obama. Patterico demonstrates that it’s apparently considered racist to make any criticism or statement of opposition against Barak for any reason at all:

Did you know that it’s racist to argue that Barack Obama should not be President?

It’s true!

We know this, because we’re told that:

• It’s racist to point out the connection between Barack Obama and a white man — who happens to be a terrorist.

• It’s racist to point out the similarity between Barack Obama and two white women — who are famous for being celebrities.

• It’s racist to point out the connection between Barack Obama and a black man — who happens to have run Fannie Mae.

• It’s racist to point out the connection between Barack Obama and a black woman — who happens to be his wife, and who said she wasn’t really proud of America until her husband was nominated.

Like Patterico, I’m sick of the race card being tossed in my face at any question of Obama’s suitability. As I mentioned, we’re not the ones being racist, here. Patterico also mentions the hesitation of McCain’s campaign to launch any of several perfectly legitimate attacks out of fear of being called racist and correctly notes that McCain’s being called racist already. There’s no reason to hold back on that account, so listen up, Team McCain: fire away!
