Obama campaign trying to silence ad showing Obama’s link to terrorist William Ayers (Update!)
Via Instapundit, I would like to direct your attention to this post over at Michelle Malkin’s site. While the Obama campaign would dearly love to have his relationship with terrorist Bill Ayers ignored or covered over, it’s most certainly pertinent to the subject of his suitability to hold the office of President of the United States. There’s more at the Malkin post so definitely go there but I feel this ad, which highlights this relationship and which the Obama campaign is pulling out all the stops to get silenced, needs as wide an audience as it can reach.
Ayers, his wife Bernadine Dohrn, and the rest of their terrorist cell blew up buildings and killed people and they have no problem with their actions. Ayers is on record as saying he thinks they didn’t do enough of that. The Dems dismiss Obama’s relationship with Ayers and his Mrs. as a “nothing to see here, move along” kind of thing. They immediately jump all over anyone making the observation by emphasizing that Obama was 8 years old when Ayers was committing his terrorism. Well, he wasn’t 8 years old when he was buddying up to Ayers to launch his political career – in Ayers’ home, I might add – and he’s not 8 years old now. Obama’s supporters are more than happy to equate GOP candidate John McCain with such historical figures as Hitler and such foreign thugs as Robert Mugabe but McCain has never called either a friend nor relied on them for political support and advice.
A man is known by the company he keeps and with a man such as Obama for whom we have no executive experience to judge, for whom we have no real legislative or governing accomplishments to assess, the history of those from whom he draws his advice is of critical importance. Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist who killed randomly because he lacked the skills and ideas to convince peacefully. He holds the lives of people he does not perceive as being solidly behind him below the value of his political aspirations and dreams. Obama should have nothing to do with such a man and, yet, he calls this man a friend and an advisor. He thinks you should just ignore that. I think you should weigh it heavily in your decisions.
Update: This editorial in the DC Examiner hits the nail squarely:
More worrisome is Obama’s claim in his letter seeking Justice Department intervention that the American Issues Project is willfully violating campaign finance laws. The reality is that the AIP appears to have satisfied all applicable federal regulations.
Any request by any political campaign that federal officials intervene to stop the airing of legitimate political opinion ought to throw up red flags to everybody who cares about protecting the First Amendment. Obama would do well to provide credible answers to the questions raised by the AIP ad. And he should make it unequivocally clear that he supports freedom of speech for everybody, including his critics.
Emphasis mine and I agree with this sentiment 100%. You need to ask yourselves whether you think this is going to get better if he’s elected. I think not.

Yeah, so why didn’t you have a problem with Bush’s ties to the bin-Laden family?
[...] long for the “yeah, well, what about him” response to arise from my previous post on Obama’s relationship with terrorist Bill Ayers. Commenter Ben Hoffman has this to [...]

Man, am I glad you sorted that idiotic statement out, Ric.
All of these conspiracy nutjobs are the uppermost impressionable weaklinks in our society. If they were eskimos, you could sell them a ton of refridgerators, because they’ll buy ANYTHING!!!
Bush didn’t have ties to the Bin Laden Family…security from the US State Dept. got them out before some of us (mostly ignernt radnecks)started shooting up the family for the sins of one of the misguided sons that they had disowned sometime before.
Jeez…some people. But whatcha expect from the ignorant ramblings of the whacked out left apologists? Thanks for the link to the “rational” argumentation.
