Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office finally signs onto ICE 287(g) program
I am very pleased to read that the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has finally signed up for the ICE Section 287(g) program as many of us in the community have called for since last year. Sheriff Simpson’s against-it/for-it/ignore-it approach hasn’t drawn kind comments here on this blog and I continue to believe this could have been handled in a much more timely fashion. That said, I’m pleasantly surprised that he’s done it at all and am quite happy to admit I was wrong in thinking he was going to just abandon the effort and pretend we weren’t here.
Thank you, Sheriff Simpson and all the folks at the LCSO.
The Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the training will head to the ICE training facility for about 4 weeks and come back to implement the agreement. They’re doing their part – formally and completely – so I’d like to renew my call for the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to do theirs. With the LCSO utilizing ICE’s systems to go after the illegals, the BoS needs to go after the employers giving the illegals the impetus to come here in the first place. It’s working in Arizona and it’s working in Prince William County. It can work here, too, if they’ll let it.
(Original press release from the LCSO is here, in MS Word format.)
