HoodaThunk?

Mental wanderings of a common man.

Going to be a light day of blogging tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be one of those extremely rare days when I’m going to be involved in doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with info tech. As a commitment to that effort, I’m powering down the PC, shutting down the phone, and killing the pager. I’m going to be as comms-tech free as people were way back in… well, 1985 when I was already in my 20′s.

Interesting notion, that. In 1985, I had a home phone and an office phone. I had voice mail on the office line but not at the house. I had no access to a fax machine at either location and the 4 places I could dial in to with my 1200-baud modem had e-mail that would only reach other users of the specific system I was connected to at the moment. I can count on my 2 hands the number of e-mails I got that year. When I left the house for the day on a weekend – trips to the shopping mall, grocery store, auto mechanic, whatever – I was completely, totally unreachable. Often for as long as 16-18 hours at a shot.

Can you imagine?

Anyway, don’t count on hearing from me tomorrow. I’ll catch up with you on Thursday.
