How will global warming crowd react to this news?

Noted on Instapundit, here’s a story in a Canadian media outlet about how solar scientists are saying the sun is poised to enter a lower-activity phase which will lead to - you guessed it - a global cooling:

Solar scientists predict that, by 2020, the sun will be starting into its weakest Schwabe solar cycle of the past two centuries, likely leading to unusually cool conditions on Earth. Beginning to plan for adaptation to such a cool period, one which may continue well beyond one 11-year cycle, as did the Little Ice Age, should be a priority for governments. It is global cooling, not warming, that is the major climate threat to the world, especially Canada. As a country at the northern limit to agriculture in the world, it would take very little cooling to destroy much of our food crops, while a warming would only require that we adopt farming techniques practiced to the south of us.

The problem will be if we don’t accurately assess the information before us and listen to people whose hysteria on the matter is driven more by politics than science. We need to look at this rationally so as not to be caught in the beginning of an ice storm with our preparations amounting to lighter clothing and more sunscreen.

  1. [...] now, that’s not how the script is supposed to be going, is it? In spite of evidence recently released that the sun is entering a lower-energy state, the continued drumbeat of global warming just kept [...]
