Who’s educating the educators?
So, my sister is testing for a state teacher’s certification in her home town and had this to share with me. In the “History” section, there was a question asked: “What are the 3 branches of government in the United States?” I, thinking I was joking, quipped, “Republican, Democrat, and Independent!” She laughed and said that was actually one of the 4 choices for an answer.
Then she told me that 7 of 10 freshly-graduated college education majors had soberly selected this answer as the correct one and were shocked to discover they were wrong.
(In case you’re reading this, and are either not an American or are also this ill-educated, the correct answer is “executive, judicial, and legislative.”)
This is the quality of the educators that have just now graduated from college and are looking for work to teach your kids about history and America. Got kids in the school? Know what the curriculum is? Maybe you should…
