A pause to refresh
Yesterday started out with one of those minor miracles you never hear about: our almost-5-year-old managed to stay asleep past 6:30 am on a Saturday morning and my wife & I got to sleep in until almost 9:00. (That’s the other minor miracle – we actually stayed asleep that long.) I can’t recall the last time I slept in that late but it sure felt good to recharge the batteries a bit.
Next up, the kid’s last soccer game of the year took place on a lovely day in the middle of June in the DC area and while the sun was brightly shining, the temperature never got into the 80′s. Unheard of in these parts… She ran around so much that she actually asked to go home and take a nap afterwards. My wife and I capitalized on that and cleaned up the garage in order to make room for the new bikes we bought for the family. (The daughter’s is new because she’s grown too tall for the old one and ours’ are new because we’ve grown to wide, period.) I also got to break out the new hedge trimmer and power blower/vaccuum.
We finished the day by wandering from our back yard into one of the neighbor’s to attend a congratulation cook-out honoring the graduation of one of their sons from college. We hadn’t met him before. He’s a good guy and he’s got a wonderful young family. We stayed, chatted, and generally enjoyed our neighbor’s company until almost 9:00 at night. All in all, a wonderful day.
And I didn’t blog at all. I guess it’s not lethal if you miss one. (Heh ™ .)
In any case, there’s a lot going on and I’ve got things to say. It’s just nice, every so often, to take a pause and refresh and join in with life’s little moments. You know, the ones that never make the news, never involve policy debate, and are the critical pinnings of a life. Here’s hoping you’ve enjoyed such recently and will, again, soon.
