DC Sniper Muhammad says he was just distraught

I’m sorry – why is this murderous swine still breathing? (My apologies to swine everywhere for the remark.)

John Allen Muhammad was one of the 2 DC snipers that picked off random strangers during a 3-week shooting spree during October of 2002. I live and work in their selected kill zone so, yes, I take the case very personally. Already convicted for several murders in Virginia and given the death penalty, he’s now entering the trial phase for his 6 Maryland murders. After all the evidence collected, after all the trial testimony, after the hands-down convictions in Virginia, this clown has the audacity to not only claim he’s innocent, but that he’s innocent because he was “distraught.” Yeah. Follow me on this one:

John Allen Muhammad introduced himself to jurors as a distraught father who was only in Maryland in October 2002 to search for the children he lost in a custody dispute — not to become the Washington-area sniper.

“The evidence is going to show you that John Allen Muhammad is innocent,” said Muhammad. “The evidence is going to show you that my son, Lee Boyd Malvo is innocent. The evidence is going to show you a lot.”

During his 20-minute statement, Muhammad quoted Plato and referred to his military training. He likened his case to the betrayal of Jesus, and asked jurors to judge him wisely. He said he would rely on “quantum physics, immaterial evidence and material evidence” to prove his case.

He said he lost his children in a custody battle with former wife, Mildred Muhammad. He said that day, Aug. 31, 2001, was “my September 11th” and prompted his nationwide search for his children. Muhammad said he learned that the children were in the Washington area, and drove there with Malvo.

So, if I’m hearing this correctly, this guy lost his kids in a custody fight (gee, wonder how that happened?) and his response is to drive to the area where he thinks his kids are, modify his car to perform as a rolling sniper blind, and commence killing people who have nothing to do with his case and have no information available to help him locate the kids. Oh, and at no time during any of this, even when he was in communication with the police, did he bring any of this up or ask where his kids were. He did manage to ask for $10 million dollars, but nothing about the kids.

Let’s recap, shall we? He and his accomplice, Malvo, were apprehended in the vehicle modified with a hole cut in the trunk lid so a person could take aim and fire completely enclosed and hidden from view. They were apprehended in possession of the weapon confirmed by ballistics to be the murder weapon. They have no alibi and their vehicle was spotted near several of the murder scenes. The Maryland prosecutor is also reporting that the two of them left DNA evidence on items and notes left at some of the killings.

Note, also, that the “defense” being offered starts up with Muhammad saying he was just a “distraught father.” You know where that’s going: he’s trying to say he was justified in shooting those people. How many distraught fathers did he leave behind, grieving over a son, a daughter, a wife…? How many distraught mothers grieving their children or husbands? No, folks, this wasn’t justified by any stretch of a twisted imagination. This, in fact, simply adds additional insult to a grave injury. I don’t know if Maryland has a death penalty. If they do, impose it. If they don’t, halt this trial before it begins, hand him back over to us in Virginia and we’ll deal with the problem.

Permanently.
