Trouble in Paradise
In an interesting but completely confusing story, a man drove his SUV into the Kahalui Airport on Maui, Hawaii, parked it in the ticket terminal and then set it on fire:
| Space Here | HONOLULU, Hawaii (Reuters) — Thousands of departing passengers were stranded on the island of Maui for 10 hours Sunday after a man drove his Sports Utility Vehicle into the open-air ticket lobby and set the vehicle on fire, authorities said.
Maui County police and the FBI said it was not an act of terrorism. No one was injured. The 52-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested and remains in custody, police said. The incident occurred early Sunday morning. The man drove his Dodge Durango up a handicap access ramp and into the lobby near the United Airlines ticket counter and then ignited a flammable liquid in the back seat, said Scott Ishikawa, spokesman for the Hawaii State Department of Transportation. |

OK, I have 1 immediate issue: anyone who’s ever been to Maui will tell you that no one can ever claim to be “stranded” there. These people weren’t stranded. They were rescued. Nuff said.
The thing completely missing from the story, of course, is the answer to the question of why this clown did this? He wasn’t a terrorist and I don’t think this is a Hawaiian ritual for saying goodbye to someone. Should be interesting to see what the guy’s excuse is.
